MELODY’S SELF-CARE
(Stay-home edition)
WHEN HOME ALONE…
I experiment with recipes, watch lots of Netflix and YouTube. I don’t mean to be a bore, but as you can tell, I really, really love food so I watch everything on the Bon Appétit Test Kitchen on YouTube, Ugly Delicious on Netflix by David Chang and The Chef Show. My guilty pleasures include Modern Family and Friends.

To Shake The Sleeping Self by Jedidiah Jenkins
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert — I met her last summer and loved her infectious energy. I can’t believe I never read the book and I LOVE it.

LISTENING
Now that you mention it, I’ve only been watching things… But I love a good jazz and funk or Bossa Nova playlist — it calms me down.

MADE HER SMILE
Haha, I watched a Korean drama for the first time ever. The Netflix hit, Crash Landing on You. It made me smile, laugh, cry… I loved it.

INSTAGRAM INSPIRATION
They’re mostly from my favourite chefs and authors: @jedidiahjenkins, @elizabeth_gilbert_writer, @massimobottura — he does a daily Kitchen Quarantine “live”, and I love watching him cook together with his beautiful family. I also love watching how the rest of the world is being creative in these “Stay Home” times, like Italians dancing on balconies or the Spanish working out together from their windows. It really puts a smile to my face.

MORNING ROUTINE
I don’t have one, but one thing is for sure — I am sleeping in more and when I wake up, I try to make sure my phone is not the first thing I look at. We already live in such a digital world and in this trying time, we rely on the digital world even more, so the best thing I can do for myself is to cut down on it as much as possible. I wake up, make food and drink a cup of tea and listen to the sounds around me rather than scroll through Instagram.

HOME / WORK BOUNDARY
1. Set up a work area and make sure it is clean and neat so you can get your mind ready for a day of work.
2. Have your drink of choice beside you so you don’t keep running to the kitchen.
3. Set little goals for yourself every day and get through them one by one.
